৩রা নভেম্বর ২০০৭ পাকিস্তানের প্রেসিডেন্ট এবং সামরিক বাহিনী প্রধান পারভেজ মুশারফ [1] দেশে জরুরী অবস্থা জারী করেছেন। সরকার একটি প্রভিন্সিয়াল কন্সটিটিউশনাল অর্ডার জারী করেছে। সামরিক বাহিনী ইসলামাবাদের সুপ্রীম কোর্টে অভিযান চালিয়ে প্রধান বিচারপতি ইফতিখার চৌধুরীকে গ্রেফতার করে। তবে পরিস্থিতির আরও অবনতি ঘটে যখন ব্যাক্তিমালিকানাধীন টিভির সমস্ত খবর চ্যানেল প্রচার বন্ধ করে দেয়া হয় এবং মোবাইল ফোন সিগন্যাল এবং ইন্টারনেট সংযোগে বাধা প্রদান করা হয়।

পাকিস্তানী ব্লগগুলো এর তাৎক্ষনিক প্রতিক্রিয়া জানিয়েছে সব ভয়ভীতি উপেক্ষা করে যেখানে জরুরী অবস্থা থাকাকালীন সময়ে সরকারের সমালোচনা করা ও এর বিপক্ষে কোন আন্দোলন বা জনমত গড়ে তোলা তাদের ব্যাক্তিগত নিরাপত্তার জন্যে হুমকি হতে পারে। তবে ব্লগাররা এমন প্রতিবাদ প্রথমবার করছে না। এর আগে যখন পাকিস্তানী সরকার ব্লগার.কম এ হোস্ট করা ব্লগগুলোকে ব্যান [2] করেছিলতখন ব্লগাররা “ডোন্ট ব্লক দ্যা ব্লগ [3]” নামে একটি অনলাইন আন্দোলন শুরু করেছিল তারা। পাকিস্তানে জরুরী অবস্থা এমন একটি সময়ে এল যখন দেশে সাধারন নাগরিকদের উপর আক্রমন বৃদ্ধি পেয়েছে, যার মধ্যে করাচীতে সাম্প্রতিক রক্তক্ষয়ী বোমা হামলা উল্লেখযোগ্য।
